A Mother’s Instinct

From L to R: Taiya, Trey, Andrea, Dreana

When we drove away from our home for the last time with our new house in tow, we knew it was for only temporary.

Wait a second you might say.

You may ask, what is going on? We thought you said you were living in the Queen full time for at least a year.

You are just getting into the groove of set up, tear down, mapping, resource management and all the new things you have learned over the last three months.

Why stop now?

All fair questions and statements.

I do not know if Andrea had a premonition of the emotions that would accompany us on this new adventure before it began, or if it was her mothering instinct.

Somehow, she just knew.

Being apart from our kids when they had struggles, celebrations, and just to see them everyday has been the hardest part of this adjustment.

She must have sensed this because she had planned a family trip to Costa Rica shortly before we left.

A family trip for an extended period to a place none of us have been to a time when we have not all been together in over a year.

One that would start exactly a week after our first Thanksgiving without any family near us in over 20 years.

Now for the next 29 days, we will not be traveling in our Airstream around the United States just the two of us.

We will get to celebrate Christmas with new adventures, new culture, and with our loved ones nearby.

So, for now the Queen will go in for a few repairs.

The King will get us to the airport safely and will be parked awaiting our return.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and hope you will follow along in Costa Rica with us on our Instagram page @alternateroads
