The Road is Calling
We love our travel days and the excitement that comes with knowing in a few hours we will be somewhere new. As we plan the route, we look forward to that point in the journey where your mind goes on auto pilot while the road seems to go on forever in front of you.
The window down, summer breeze blowing bye, favorite cassette tape, cd, or playlist, providing you the soundtrack. Your mind wandering through all the thoughts and ideas you have been storing away during the hustle and bustle of your daily life. Playing out dreams in your head. Reliving memories until you are crying or laughing hysterically as the trucker your passing thinks you must have gone crazy!
Seeing each exit off the highway, or fork in the road, as a metaphor for the life you are living. A left here? A right there? Who the hell knows where you’ll end up? As the miles pass, the memories flood in and out only interrupted by the “I waited too long” bathroom break that has become an emergency. Time seems to stand still and fly by in the same moment.
Your mind floods with nostalgia about the days spent with Grandma and Grandpa. Reminiscing about that youthful moment etched into your memory capturing the innocence of the time. The family road trips. That song mom or dad played over and over flooding you back with emotion wishing for that moment one more time.
That open road allows us to reflect on who we have been, who we are, and who we can still become. Yet, that rearview mirror also serves as a reminder. Time, just like the miles is passing by and our life just like this road trip will eventually come to an end. The only question is will we reach the “destinations” in our lives before then?
It is times like this through reflection, appreciation, and gratitude that we realize what a blessing our lives truly are.
When we finally reach that destination, pull in for the night, that sunset hits the heart a bit differently.
That next sunrise awakens our spirit as we see it for the first time again.
This is why we love those open roads.
Why we travel
Why we don’t put it off until tomorrow
See you all down the road.
