Detours, Speed Bumps and U-Turns
A life on the road tends to lend itself to seeing everything as one big road trip.
Here are three inevitable actions you’ll be faced with on the road trip of life!
Detours
A detour is when we are pulled away from the path, we have chosen for ourselves.
It is when life throws us the proverbial curveball.
It is unplanned, unscheduled, and many times exactly what we needed even if we did not know it at the time.
Detours are when the universe takes control of the wheel for a bit and guides you in the direction you were needed most.
It is these unexpected routes and places that ultimately create some of the best memories of our lives.
Speed Bumps
The Speed Bump is a humbling experience designed to slow us down.
It is when we “get too big for our own britches”, as my Grandma Jean liked to say.
These tend to happen when we fall overly in love with ourselves.
When we start spending too much time admiring who we see in the mirror and forget about those around us.
Speed bumps are designed to ground us, humble us, teach us lessons, but not necessarily change the course.
Just like driving down the street the most effective speed bump is the one we don’t see coming until it's too late.
Speed bumps can shake and rattle but ultimately, they are designed remind us of who we can become.
U-turns
A U turn is when we turn back to see where we have been.
It is a time for reflection on who we were, who we are, and to appreciate who we can still become.
U-turns are a great time to make amends, forgive, and let bygones be bygones.
They are great opportunities to lessen the load we’ve been carrying through life and emerge lighter, more focused, and clearer in purpose.
One Big Road Trip
Like any great road trip, our lives aren’t planned with any of these events scheduled.
Yet many times these occurrences are where we create some of the best memories.
The stories of chance encounters in places off your path that lead to friendships, relationships, and maybe even love.
Many of our favorite family memories were never on our “planned route”.
