A Life Lesson from Mother Nature

Part of our full-time travel plan was to make sure we had a “home base” to return to when needed.

We saw this being a painful lesson for many full-time travelers during 2020, when they were left stranded by closures, lock downs, and travel restrictions.

Combining our logistical need with the majestic Black Hills has allowed us to create a great place to rest, recover, and reconnect with friends and family.

In our “perfect world” we arrive in time to enjoy the beauty of watching spring turn into summer, summer into fall, and then we head south to avoid the snow and cold.

Unfortunately, we may not have clued mother nature in on our plan.

For as much as we enjoyed the Florida beaches in January and February and paddle boarding the Salt River in AZ in early April, apparently, she felt we still needed a little winter in our lives.

As we arrived, started unpacking and cleaning the left-over beach sand from the pickup, we were reminded of what we had missed.

We like this quote and honestly needed a cool picture of winter because we don’t take many of ourselves in the snow.

In blew the cold, biting winds, that Wyoming knows to well.   Out went the thoughts of summertime and here came snow, ice, and hustle to find our winter clothing.

Time to crank up the heater, open the cabinets to avoid pipes freezing, find that winter jacket, and make that big pot of chili that we had craved.

Thankfully, this reminder was only a few days long.  Springtime has sprung but those couple of days served as a good reminder.

Our brief “winter” will help us appreciate these long summer nights all that much more and allowed us to reflect on the importance of what you don’t want in life at times.

Can you truly appreciate warmth without knowing cold?  Will you fully understand the depths of love without heartbreak?  Do you appreciate all the people around you if you never leave them long enough to miss them?

Even as we chase “perfect weather” and “live the dream” all our days cannot and should not be perfect.

It is through the respect for the “bad weather” days in our lives that we grow and truly appreciate all those sunrises and sunsets making up the best parts of our lives.

We offer thanks and gratitude to mother nature for the life reminder.

Are summer projects, barbecues, campfire laughs, starry nights, and time with family and friends will all be cherished just a bit more.
