Becoming Resourceful

4 Hidden Life Gems in Full Time Rving - Part 2

Life on the road means epic views and surprises awaiting inside when the travel day is over.

Traveling full time means our home is frequently being pulled down a wide variety of roads at 65 miles per hour.

The impact this creates is like a traditional home being affected by a small earthquake on a routine basis.

After each trip when we open the door to the Queen, we anxiously await the surprises inside.

Once we were greeted by the bathroom door laying in the hallway after it came to life, breaking free from the door hinges following a rough patch of highway in Arizona.

Not know what damage may have occurred or what “minor” repairs may need to be made after each trip requires us to become much “handier” than ever before in our lives.

Thankfully there is YouTube and most rv repairs are simple fixes once you can reach them.  Small living means working in tight spots 😊

Another aspect to this is managing your physical resources like water, fuel, propane, solar, and grey water.

Andrea has become a master at using apps like Campendium, to help us plan not only our destinations but our stops for resource management.

Finding fresh water, dump stations, refilling gas and propane requires a hands-on approach.

Our favorite way to camp is “boondocking” on public lands relying on our solar panels to provide the power we need.

This helps us save money on fuel, is good for the environment, and allows us to minimize our disruption to nature.

While it requires us to be aware of what is plugged in and when, it makes you much more mindful of using your resources and understanding their limitations.

We have been doing this with a basic set up of two batteries, and a portable solar suitcase. Super simple, cost effective, and easy to use.

Getting on the road and experiencing the life was our priority over any large expensive upgrades.

Not that we won’t do so in the future but learning to live comfortably with less has been empowering.

Being mindful consumers, living resourcefully, and reducing our impact on nature, has been part of our goal to the live the Pura Vida lifestyle we experienced in Costa Rica.
