Each year so far, we have spent the winter in new and different places.  Year one was Florida.  Year two Arizona.  Different sides of the country, different geography, much different humidity, but much warmer than the winters we were used to.

So where to go for year three that would be new and warmer?  Was it time to tow our home south of the border and explore Baja, Mexico?

This idea brought with it a lot of discussion between the two of us and lots of opinions from friends and family we shared the idea with.  Is it safe?  Crime?  Language barriers? All fair questions to ask and concerns we had as well in making this decision.

I was much more cautious about the idea than was Andrea. Why not settle for another Arizona winter? It’s easy, affordable, and we know what to expect.

Yet, she was right when she reminded me that “easy” was never on our vision board.  We wanted adventures, to learn new things, and have new experiences.  Our new life was supposed to be the opposite of easy. It was designed to be full of changes and challenges, new sights and scenery, new problems to solve, new people to meet, and new versions of us to create!

So, we like we’ve done many times in 25 years of marriage, we compromised.  We would join a caravan, or group of people traveling to the same area, and spend our first couple weeks in Baja with more experienced travelers that we could learn from.

This is where we express our gratitude for technology, social media, and the good that comes from creating communities beyond geographical limits.

Andrea had been following a couple, Steven and Alexis (Neversaysomeday), that had been traveling with their two sons and a dog throughout Baja for years.  They seemed like an adventurous family that loved many of the same things we did, beaches, paddleboarding, hiking, and tacos!   They also were living full-time in an Airstream, so that gave us peace of mind knowing The Queen would be able to get into the same areas without much issue.

The Baja 2024 Caravan would be made up of a group of people who would quickly go from strangers to life long friends united by the desire to travel and stay warm in January!  Each of us bringing with our own truths, reasons, and unique stories that would intertwine for two weeks.

Let the adventure begin!

this video was taken by our kids as we left the Salton Sea area of California headed south. Pretty fun experience having your children see you living life differently and encouraging them to do the same!
