4 Steps to Full Timing Part 3
Our most frequently asked question is “how do you afford full time travel”?
Ironically, at the time we are writing this Andrea and I are apart for the first time since setting out to live full time in our Airstream and it is because of our work.
I am in Montana teaching law enforcement officers and Andrea stayed in Florida and got a visit from our youngest daughter.
This was exactly the kind of scenarios we imagined when we started this adventure.
Even though I am “retired”, that money is invested to serve future Jerrod and Andrea. For now, our livelihood is still in our hands.
Capitalizing on my 21+ years of experience, I created a law enforcement training company, in 2015, which allows me to combine my passion of coaching with full time travel to new parts of the country for classes.
Andrea owns a health and wellness business in which she empowers others to find natural solutions to their wellness needs. She can work from anywhere and serves clients all over the United States. The new relationships we have made on the road are exactly the kind of people she loves serving.
We were also fortunate enough to have owned a mixed martial arts gym, which we sold our shares of shortly before we went full time. This has provided us a nice monthly income for the first year.
Between these three, we have met our monthly budget needs.
Running our own businesses and traveling have allowed us to also follow our curiosity. Sometimes we do this through hiking, paddle boarding, visiting a museum, or…. working!
It had always been a dream of mine to attend spring training. So, when I saw the opportunity to mix baseball with a winter void of cold and snow, I jumped on it. A cold email, followed by a phone interview, (I interviewed for both of us 😊) and we were employed!
Natural gaps in our other businesses allowed us to fit in seasonal work at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium which hosts the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins spring training sessions.
It ended up only being a weeklong, due to the lock out, but what a fun week it was. We had our patience challenged, met some amazing friends, and I was close to baseball for the first time in a long time.
Having much more time freedom also allows us to invest in our passion projects like “The On Purpose Podcast” and our travel channel on Instagram.

These kind of experiences and flexibility is a bit part of what drew us to this lifestyle and why sacrificing so much initially (downsizing and minimizing) pays of greatly now.
