Where our Story Meets the Land
Sierra San Jose
Our view south into Mexico and the 8500 ft mountain that awaits just across the border. Andrea’s prayer flags are up to welcome friends new and old to our new world.
Last year, as we pulled away from our usual summer camping spot in the Black Hills of Wyoming for the fifth year in a row, something felt different.
Normally, after three and a half months in the same place, we were excited to hit the road again — ready for new landscapes, new cultures, and the familiar freedom of open travel. But this time, something was missing. Something had shifted. And we couldn’t quite name it.
So we headed west with two months to wander before we needed to be anywhere. We gave ourselves space to think, to wonder, and to listen for whatever was trying to get our attention. We camped along the Flaming Gorge in Utah, soaked in the red rock beauty of Bryce Canyon, and hiked in awe through Zion National Park.
The peace, the quiet, and the chance to be fully with yourself — to think, to ask harder questions, to listen for real answers, and to watch how the universe responds — these moments have a way of leading us exactly where we’re meant to be.
It was there — camped outside Zion for a month — that things finally became clear.
We were not tired of traveling. We were not restless. We were missing a home base.
A place that was ours. A place we could shape with our own hands. A place that could become a legacy for our kids long after our time here on earth is over.
We realized we were ready to build the kind of community that’s rare to find but unforgettable once you’re in it — a place where people can simply be who they are, where nature still sets the rules, and where we could live in rhythm with the land instead of just passing through it.
After five years of full‑time travel, minimalistic living, and all the lessons the road had given us, it was time to put down roots again — not to settle, but to grow into the next version of ourselves.
We’re excited to share this new adventure with you here on the blog and over on Instagram. Please comment and share your thoughts with us — we love hearing how these moments inspire, motivate, or simply entertain along the way.
